Justin Morneau took his first swings in a week on Saturday, May 12, and expressed hope he will be activated from the disabled list in time to play in the opener of an eight-game road trip Wednesday in Detroit.
"If it's not the first day, I'm sure the plan is to get activated at some time on that road trip," he said.
Morneau has been on the disabled list since Monday because of soreness in his left wrist. He visited a hand specialist and received a cortisone shot in Cleveland on Tuesday. Diagnosis: standard soreness related to wrist surgery performed Sept. 30.
On Saturday, Morneau took 25-30 swings off a tee, his first since May 5 in Seattle.
