Justin Dentmon is undersized at 6-0, but he’s joining the Mavericks with a big heart and big confidence.

After all, he’s done all he can do at every other level of basketball short of the NBA.

The combo guard went through his first practice with the Mavericks. He was the NBA Development League’s MVP last season. The Mavericks are hoping his shooting comes as advertised.

“He was the leading scorer in the D-League, wasn’t he?” Carlisle said. “I would have to think you’d have to be able to shoot to do that. We’re familiar with Justin because we had him in our summer program last year. We really like him as a kid. He’s a great worker. He loves to play. [Texas Legends coach] Eddie Najera thinks very highly of him. This is a great opportunity for him and it’s a chance for us to get a better look.”

Dentmon will be active against the Clippers.

“It’s a great opportunity,” Dentmon said. “I’m going to come in and give it all I can. Hopefully, they like me, and if not, I’m going to keep pushing.”
