Blue Jays catcher J.P. Arencibia fired back at baseball analysts Gregg Zaun and Dirk Hayhurst, after his play was criticized prior to Wednesday’s game against Detroit.
“There’s not one person in our clubhouse that respects those guys,” Arencibia told Sportsnet the Fan 590 on Thursday morning.
Arencibia said it was “unfortunate” that fans have to get information from Zaun and Hayhurst and “informing the fans the wrong way.”
He dismissed Hayhurst as a minor-league pitcher with “below-average baseball tools” and Zaun as a below-average catcher linked to PEDs.
“I know it’s part of the job . . . but they quickly forget how tough the game is,” Arencibia told the radio station.
Arencibia was on air to promote the launch Thursday of the 25th season of Rookie League at Stan Wadlow Park in East York.
