As much as Josh Beckett became the face of the Red Sox' epic collapse last September, there hasn't been any bigger symbol of their failure this season.

Just consider what happened here last night.

Rather than following the lead of revived lefty Jon Lester and muting the powerful New York Yankees in the rubber match of a three-game series, Beckett fell flat yet again in a 4-1 loss that left the Red Sox' record at 59-63, 71/2 games off the pace for a wild card spot.
