Canes coach Kirk Muller was in for a rarity today at PNC Arena: when he blew the whistle to begin the morning skate, he had a surplus of healthy players.

"It's the training camp we didn't have," Muller joked.

Back on the ice were forwards Jeff Skinner and Tim Brent, and defensemen Tim Gleason, Jamie McBain and Joni Pitkanen. All had been out with injuries -- Skinner with a concussion.

Muller said Skinner, Brent, McBain and Gleason would play tonight against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Brent and Gleason were taken off injured reserve. Pitkanen, Muller said, also was close to returning to the lineup.

With McBain and Gleason back, the Canes sent defenseman Ryan Murphy back to the Kitchener Rangers (OHL) and reassigned Michal Jordan to the Charlotte Checkers (AHL). Center Jeremy Welsh also was reassigned to Charlotte.

"We've got healthy bodies back, which is great," Muller said.
