Count veteran Jason Kidd as one who believes the Mavericks needed some rest and practice to get ready for the playoffs.

Kidds' status for Thursday's game at Atlanta still is up in the air, but he said he would take a night off if that's what is decided.

``Well, Dirk feels I play better when I rest...'' Kidd joked with a sly smile. ``So if that's the case, I don't mind the rest. The rhythm and all of that, that's just basketball.''

Kidd said he believes the four days of rest and practice the Mavericks have had since Saturday's game have helped him.

``I feel great in practice and we've had two great practices the last two days, and I feel great physically,'' he said. ``We don't know the plan for tomorrow until we get to Atlanta and talk about it.''
