Dallas Cowboys lineman Josh Brent is scheduled to go to trial Sept. 23 on a charge of intoxication manslaughter, his defense attorney confirmed Monday night.

Brent is charged in connection with a one-car crash Dec. 8 in Irving that killed his teammate and best friend, Jerry Brown.

Authorities have said Brent, who was driving, had a blood alcohol level of 0.18 percent at the time of the crash. The legal limit for driving is 0.08.

George Milner said that though the trial date has been set, it could be postponed and a plea bargain remains possible.

“We are always hopeful that a reasonable and fair agreement can be reached,” he said.

But he added that if need be, he could be ready for trial immediately.
