Brett Lawrie’s high ankle sprain appears to be worse than first expected as the Blue Jays’ 23-year-old third baseman is now in a walking boot and has yet to participate in any baseball-related activities.

“He’s not doing much, he’s banged up,” manager John Gibbons said before Friday’s game against the Texas Rangers.

When Lawrie first suffered the injury while sliding into second base in a game against the Atlanta Braves on May 27, the team suggested he may be able to play within the week. Then an MRI showed a more serious sprain and he was added to the 15-day disabled list.
