Pirates outfielder Starling Marte is not in the lineup Sunday, missing a fourth straight game with an oblique injury.

Marte said, prior to Sunday's game, that his condition has improved each day, and that he was able to take some swings Sunday.

When will the left fielder be back atop the Pirates' lineup?

“Maybe tomorrow,” Marte said.

Marte had his first career four-hit game Wednesday before sustaining the injury. Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said Marte could be a candidate to land on the disabled list if his condition does not soon show marked improvement.

Cumpton gets second start

Brandon Cumpton will receive his second major-league start Thursday at Cincinnati, Hurdle announced prior to Sunday's game. Cumpton made his debut Saturday vs. the Dodgers, filling in for A.J. Burnett who landed on the DL with a calf strain. Cumpton allowed three runs and seven hits over five innings. He struck out five and walked one.

Hurdle said Jeanmar Gomez will make a second rehab start Tuesday before the Pirates make a decision on Gomez.
