CC Sabathia gave the Yankees a shot in the arm at the perfect time.
Back on a big league mound for the first time since October, the lefty threw five solid innings in the Yankees’ 7-3 win over the Marlins Friday at Steinbrenner Field. More importantly, Sabathia reported no problems with his left elbow, which was operated on in late October to remove bone spurs.
It was just the news the Yankees needed given the massive hits their lineup has taken this spring with the injuries to Mark Teixeira and Curtis Granderson.
“I don’t care who we have in our lineup,” Derek Jeter said. “We could have everyone back, it’s still comforting when you know he’s healthy and he’s able to go out there and pitch. That’s how you win. You win with pitching. Everyone knows how important CC is to our team.”
