Ilya Kovalchuk was first onto the ice today in the AmeriHealth Pavilion and had no problems skating after being hit by shots in the left ankle and right foot Saturday night in Buffalo.

X-rays over the weekend on both bruised areas were negative.

Kovalchuk skated and took some shots before 11 teammates joined him for some early power play drills prior to the full team practice.

Those who joined Kovalchuk were Nick Palmieri, Zach Parise, Brian Rolston, Travis Zajac, Jacob Josefson, Mattias Tedenby, Patrik Elias, Anssi Salmela, Andy Greene, Mark Fayne and goalie Johan Hedberg.

Coach Jacques Lemaire fell when he stepped onto the ice, but was not hurt. Lemaire, who may have stepped on a puck, landed on his back and side but did not hit his head, which was protected only by a cap.
