Left fielder Brett Gardner may return to the Yankees tonight against the Rays after missing three weeks with an elbow injury. But if Raul Ibanez — a part-time outfielder and part-time DH — is going to have to vie for playing time, he sure made a compelling argument last night. Two of them, to be precise.

Ibanez shook off a mini-slump and hit a pair of home runs — his first multi-homer game since last July — to lead the Yankees to a 5-3 victory over the Rays. It was fitting, since he has done his best work of the year bludgeoning Tampa Bay.
