The San Diego Padres have acquired starting pitcher Ian Kennedy from the Arizona Diamondbacks for left-handed reliever minor-league pitcher Matt Stites and a future draft pick multiple sources have confirmed to ESPN.

Kennedy 28 has struggled this season going 3-8 with a 5.23 ERA in 21 starts. But the right-hander was a 21-game winner for Arizona in 2011 and went 15-12 last season.

Kennedy is eligible for salary arbitration this upcoming offseason after making $4.265 million this year. A native of southern California Kennedy has a 2.27 ERA in six career starts at San Diego's Petco Park.

Thatcher 31 has a 2.10 ERA in 50 relief appearances this season for the Padres.
