Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has agreed to terms with forward Brett Sutter on a one-year contract. The deal will pay Sutter $600,000 on the NHL level or $150,000 on the American Hockey League (AHL) level, with a guarantee of at least $250,000.

Sutter, 26, ranked second among Charlotte Checkers (AHL) skaters in scoring for the 2012-13 season, totaling 48 points (19g, 29a) in 70 games played. The Viking, Alb, native established AHL career highs in goals (19), assists (29) and points (48), serving as Charlotte’s team captain for the second consecutive year. Sutter (6’0”, 200 lbs.) led the Checkers with 17 even-strength goals and was tied for the team lead in shorthanded points (3). He also appeared in three games on the NHL level with the Hurricanes, totaling four penalty minutes.
