The Kansas City Royals selected Stephen F. Austin shortstop Hunter Dozier with the No. 8 pick in the 2013 MLB Amateur Draft.

Dozier, who went undrafted out of high school, is now the highest draft pick in Lumberjacks history. The previous, Bryson Myles, went in the sixth round of the 2011 draft to the Cleveland Indians.

At 6'4, 220 pounds, Dozier is big for a shortstop and may need to move to third base at the professional level. Dozier's athleticism and strong arm project to fit well at the hot corner; he used to play quarterback for his high school football team in Texas.

The infielder's best tool offensively is his power. Jim Callis of Baseball America noticed that Dozier changed his stance this spring; he now stands in a more upright position, which allows him to use his hands better.

Dozier can return to Stephen F. Austin for his senior season if he fails to reach an agreement with the Royals.
