The measure of what Shawn Horcoff brings to the table came in the second period of Sunday's game against the St. Louis Blues.

Horcoff got plowed from behind into the boards to the left of Blues goalie Jaroslav Halak, but managed to squirt the puck free so there wasn't a whistle. Five seconds later, Ryan Smyth scored after Ryan Jones passed to defenceman Alex Plante, who fired on net where Smyth casually slid the puck under Halak's pad.

There was no assist on the scoresheet for Horcoff, but the Edmonton Oilers' second goal doesn't happen if Horcoff doesn't take the wallop and get the bouncing rubber to Jones, who started the chain reaction.

"Horc's the one who kept the play alive ... great second effort," said Smyth.
