National League manager Tony La Russa selected Cardinals outfielder Matt Holliday to replace teammate Yadier Molina on the NL active roster for Tuesday's All-Star Game in Kansas City.

St. Louis placed Molina, one of three catchers on the NL squad, on the bereavement list on Friday. A four-time All-Star, Molina is batting .304 with 13 home runs and 45 RBIs. His absence will leave Tuesday's catching duties to San Francisco's Buster Posey and Philadelphia's Carlos Ruiz, barring any additional roster modifications.
