There are hot streaks, and then there's what Matt Holliday is doing.
The Cardinals have been inconsistent in recent weeks, falling to 9-7 since June 16 with a 3-2 loss to the Rockies on Tuesday, but Holliday has been pretty predictable. In that same span, he's been on a tear that has seen him put up some impressive offensive numbers.
Holliday hit his team-high 14th home run of the season in the first inning to put the Cards up 2-0, and that gave him homers in back-to-back games. Then he singled in the third, which put his batting average since June 16 at .517 and gave him his 30th multiple-hit game of the season and his fourth in his past five games. It also meant his batting average for the season had jumped up 100 points, from .215 at the end of April to .315.
Holliday stays hot, but misses key chance
