Washington manager Davey Johnson has apparently conceded tonight's game, now trailing the Cardinals 9-1 after six innings.
In the fifth inning, the Nationals removed several starters from the rout, and they took out more in the sixth, leaving the club with only two players on the field who opened the game. They are Michael Morse and Danny Espinosa.
Meanwhile, Cardinals manager Mike Matheny has kept his starters in the game. That is, until one, Matt Holliday was forced out in the sixth inning when he was hit square on his left elbow on a 94-mph fastball from Nationals pitcher Christian Garcia. Holliday received attention from trainers before exiting the game.
Shane Robinson replaced Holliday on the bases and then took his spot in left field the following inning.
