The Philadelphia Flyers have called a news conference for Wednesday morning to announce "front office promotions," amid reports that assistant general manager Ron Hextall will be promoted to general manager.

According to a report from Comcast Sportsnet and Philadelphia Daily News reports, it is expected that Hextall will take over, while existing GM Paul Holmgren as team president.

Hextall has served as assistant GM with the Flyers since June, 2013 and is currently listed as an assistant GM with Canada's team at the 2014 IIHF World Championship.

His first NHL front office job came with the Los Angeles Kings, who hired him as an assistant GM in 2006. There he also served as general manager of the Manchester Monarchs, the Kings' American Hockey league affiliate.
