Devin Hester on Friday downplayed his recent work with Bears defensive backs during position drills. However, he believes he could have a positive impact on a game if the situation required him to play defense.

“I think so, but we’re deep at DBs right now,” Hester said. “We have second and third options if anything goes wrong with the guys playing now. If push comes to shove, it’s fourth quarter, 2 minutes left in the game and we need to go any kind of coverage with me back there, I’ll do it.”

Hester performed position drills Wednesday and Friday with the defensive backs during the portion of practice open to media. They were the first times he did so this season.

The Bears drafted Hester as a cornerback and kick returner in the second round in 2006, but he played only one season as a reserve cornerback before converting to wide receiver.
