The Hawks announced the signing of DeMarre Carroll Saturday one day after the small forward inked his two-year contract.

“DeMarre is a great fit for our program” general manager Danny Ferry said in a statement released by the team. “He is an unselfish highly competitive player. His versatility in defending multiple positions will make him a valuable contributor to our basketball team.”

Carroll announced the signing on Twitter Friday night as he wrote: “Now I can Officially say I’m a Atlanta Hawk. God has been better to me then I have been to myself! The Junkyarddog is on his way!!”

The Hawks also announced that they requested waivers on DeShawn Stevenson as first reported by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Friday. That moved cleared the way for the Carroll signing.
