The Jackson Generals downed the Jacksonville Suns, 9-1, Wednesday night at the Ballpark at Jackson.

Right fielder James Jones hit a two-out, bases-loaded three-RBI triple in the bottom of the first to put the Generals on the board. Jackson never trailed.

Jones went 4-for-4 with three RBI and a walk. Left fielder Abraham Almonte continued his hot hitting by going 4-for-5, improving his average to .282.

Catcher John Hicks hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth to extend Jackson’s lead to 8-1. The next batter, designated hitter Julio Morban, hit a solo home run to right field to bring the score to 9-1.

Hicks went 1-for-4 with three RBI and three walks. Morban went 2-for-5 with two RBI.

Generals starting pitcher right-hander Taijuan Walker (3-2, 1.54) picked up the win. Walker gave up one earned run on three hits, struck out seven and walked two in six innings.

Starting pitcher for Jacksonville Sam Dyson (0-2, 2.96) pitched five innings, gave up four earned runs on six hits, struck out one and walked four in the loss.

The teams return to action today for the second game of a five-game series at the Ballpark at Jackson. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
