The left-knee injury that knocked Angels outfielder Josh Hamilton out of Friday night’s game does not appear to be serious.

Hamilton didn’t start Saturday against the Detroit Tigers, but Angels manager Mike Scioscia said Hamilton could return Sunday after making “a lot of progress.”

“He feels good,” Scioscia said. “In fact, he wanted to try to play today.”

Scioscia and the training staff decided to take a conservative approach with Hamilton after he labored through three innings Friday. Hamilton didn’t suffer a specific injury during the game, according to Scioscia, who said the knee had been bothering Hamilton since before the All-Star break.

“He’s been battling,” Scioscia said. “He DH’d a couple times early out of the break just to try to get his legs to refresh. We just had to get a little more aggressive with it and give him a night off.”
