Milwaukee Brewers general manager Doug Melvin was having "ongoing conversations" with multiple clubs Thursday evening that could lead to trading ace Zack Greinke at any time.
Melvin would not identify the number of teams in play, but the Texas Rangers, Los Angeles Angels, Atlanta Braves and Chicago White Sox were believed to be pushing the hardest to strike a deal for Greinke, who is slated to start Sunday for the Brewers, two days before the trade deadline.
It would serve neither the Brewers nor the interested clubs for Greinke to pitch for the Brewers at that point, leaving another day or so to consummate a trade.
