Philadelphia Flyers captain Claude Giroux has cancelled any weekend travel plans to Calgary.

The 25-year-old Giroux says he's not going to attend Hockey Canada's summer orientation camp ahead of the 2014 Sochi Olympics according to TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun.

Giroux - who underwent surgery on his index finger on Thursday after his club snapped during a round of golf in Ottawa - is opting instead to focus on rehabbing the injury.

He is expected to be out of action for 5-6 weeks.

Giroux was one of 25 forwards invoted last July to the camp scheduled to begin Sunday in Calgary.

At this point in time Hockey Canada doesn't intend to invite another player in his absence according to LeBrun.
