Predators defenseman Hal Gill will likely end his 12-game absence due to a lower body injury tonight when Nashville plays Columbus.

Without Gill in the lineup, the Predators have killed off just 24 of 37 opposing power plays.

“It’s tough to miss games, it’s tough to sit out,” Gill said. “You’d like to think you can make a difference and sitting there, watching teams struggle is tough. When a team wins you want to be a part of the win. It’s tough either way, but it’s going to be nice to get out there and just compete.”

It’s unclear which defenseman will sit tonight — or if Nashville will go with seven defensemen. Ryan Ellis came off the ice quite late, which could mean he will be scratched. If so, it would be Ellis’ first scratch of the season.
