You should see Frank Francisco after a save, even a save that almost wasn't. Standing in front of his locker as he did on Monday night, beaming, chin pointing upward in pride and defiance, the closer realizes that he loves New York.

The man they call "Big Frank" savors it when reporters surrounded him twice pregame, and once again after, as they did on this day. He drinks in the boos at Citi Field, knowing that those sounds pour from fans who care enough to scorn him.

"Yeah, I love it," Francisco said, after saving the Mets' 3-1 win over Milwaukee, barely, on a day that began with a tepid endorsement from his boss. "You know why? Because later on, they're going to clap for me. I promise you that."
