Bears running back Matt Forte was held out of Wednesday’s practice at Lake Forest, still regrouping after hyperextending his right knee late in Sunday’s loss to the Rams.

Head coach Marc Trestman believes Forte will be healthy enough to play this weekend against the Vikings.

But if Forte were to suffer a setback and wasn’t able to either start or finish, the Bears would need Michael Bush and rookie Michael Ford to carry their ground game “working together in tandem.”

“Still optimistic,” Trestman said of Forte. “I feel pretty good that he’ll start getting some work tomorrow. And we’ll see where he’s at. But I’ll go in optimistic.”
