Austin Daye was the forgotten man in the three-way trade that sent Rudy Gay to Toronto and brought Jose Calderon to Detroit.

But he is playing a role with his new team, the Grizzlies, along with former Pistons teammate Tayshaun Prince.

Daye called his nearly four seasons with the Pistons a learning experience. And now he wants to use that knowledge to help his new team win a championship this season.

Daye is more engaged with what goes on around the league. He checks box scores, checks out what is going on around his team and is eager for tonight's game at The Palace.

"It's great, man," Daye said after the team worked out at The Palace on Monday. "I hope to cut my summer short. Hopefully the summers will be shorter and shorter as we play along. I am happy about that. Before, we were always on the outside looking in when I was with the Pistons. Now I am analyzing every game and checking out games."

Daye is averaging 6.5 points and 2.0 rebounds in 13.3 minutes. Those numbers are slightly higher than the 5.8 points he averaged with the Pistons, with whom he was benched for significant games the past two years.
