Jason Bay, whose Mets career was spoiled by two concussions and subpar play, agreed to a one-year contract with the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday, a person with direct knowledge of the deal told the Daily News.
The Mets essentially released Bay, 34, earlier this month, when he agreed to defer some of the $21 million still owed to him. The Mets signed Bay to a four-year, $66 million contract after the 2009 season.
Bay's bust of a tenure in New York bottomed out last year, when he batted .165 with eight home runs and 20 runs batted in. he managed to hit just 26 home runs in his three Met seasons.
