There will be no Daniel Alfredsson Saturday night against his former team.

Though the Senators former captain wanted to be in the lineup against Ottawa his injured groin isn’t strong enough to allow him to play, but he should be back in time to make his homecoming next Sunday at Canadian Tire Centre.

Alfredsson said he expects to return to the Wings lineup Wednesday.

“They want to make sure it doesn’t become (a long-term issue),” said Alfredsson Saturday. “I wasn’t kind of targeting today. I agreed to it. You’ve got to be smart.”

The Senators won’t make any changes.

Goaltender Robin Lehner will make the start. He has never had the chance to play at Joe Louis Arena.
