The Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday signed rookie forward Michael Raffl to a two-year, $2.2 million contract extension.

Raffl, who signed a one-year, $925,000 contract May 31, 2013, could have become a restricted free agent this summer.

The 25-year-old has nine goals and 21 points in 57 games. He's developed into one of the Flyers' most versatile performers and a top penalty killer, averaging 1:44 per game, fourth-most among their forwards. He has 91 hits, fifth among forwards, and 37 blocked shots, tied for third among forwards.
