Flyers rookie Tye McGinn never saw Carolina Hurricanes forward Tim Wallace coming.
Looking to clear the puck 6:34 into the first period Saturday, the 22-year-old left wing suddenly was smashed head first into the glass.
Wallace received a five-minute major for boarding and a game misconduct for his actions, and McGinn escaped injury after heading to the dressing room for a quick examination.
“It was on my off side,” McGinn said after a 4-3 Flyers overtime victory. “I went to chip the puck out and I didn’t see him coming. It was a hit. Luckily, I’m all right.”
McGinn, who was a plus-one for the afternoon in 12:34 of ice time, said after the game that he hadn’t seen a replay and wanted a second look before deciding if he felt Wallace’s hit was dirty.
“I feel good,” he said. “We had to carry on. I know that he got five minutes.”
