Calgary shut down Minnesota's offense for much of the night and won the first game of a home-and-home series Saturday night, Feb. 23, at the Calgary Saddledome.
After a 2-on-1 Wild rush failed to connect, Calgary's Alex Tanguay was open going the other way for a long breakaway pass and beat Niklas Backstrom to make it 1-0 just 1:40 into the first period. The Wild tied the score seven minutes later when rookie Charlie Coyle directed in Pierre-Marc Bouchard's goal-mouth pass for his first NHL goal.
The assist was the first for Bouchard in 13 games.
