As much as it would please Cubs fans to fast-forward to 2015, building a contending team will be a gradual process.
Waiting for ecstasy is never easy, but when the season begins with the start of Cactus League action, there's no mistaking a change in everyone's demeanor.
"I don't care who you are," manager Dale Sveum said before Saturday's 11-2 victory over the Angels at Tempe Diablo Stadium. "The first 10 days (of workouts) you have to go through it and all that. But you still look forward to this day when you start playing real games and where you can evaluate … see guys in game situations.
"It's the time of spring where you can focus on all the young guys and the guys who are capable of making the team. It's always nice in Arizona when you get a beautiful day. It's the first real game of the year."
