Few people are as well equipped to critique Johnny Manziel as 1998 Heisman Trophy winner Ricky Williams himself the center of various off-the-field controversies.

Since officially retiring from the NFL in 2011 Williams agreed this past July to become the running backs coach at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio. Asked about Manziel at his introductory press conference Williams didn't hold back on the Texas A&M QB but he also didn't absolve the media of blame.

Williams' point about the media is indeed a fair one as it's been just as much at the root of Johnny Mansanity this offseason as has the quarterback's exploits.

In Williams' words:

“You know once you win the Heisman Trophy there's going to be more attention on you” the former University of Texas star said to KEYE TV. “You are probably not going to be able to get away with all the stuff you got away with before. To the media I would say if the media did their research on who this kid was nobody would be surprised.”
