Roddy White, severely hindered by injury throughout this season, has been a shadow of the prolific receiver we're accustomed to seeing on the field for the Falcons. White is, however, a fundamentally important component of what Atlanta's high-powered offense is supposed to be, and that's why it's good news that NFL Network's Ian Rapoport is reporting that White is likely to sign a long-term extension with the Falcons this offseason.

White's current deal locks him in through next season with the Falcons, but if the Falcons were to extend him this offseason, they could reduce what is currently slated to be a $6.3 million cap hit. With significant needs along the offensive and defensive lines in particular, freeing up more cap space while securing White's future with the franchise would be a beneficial for the Falcons.
