Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Evan Longoria, who missed more than three months of the season with a hamstring injury, was taken out of today's game against the visiting New York Yankees as a precautionary move, the team said, according to the Tampa Bay Times.
Longoria left after seven innings and with the score tied, 3-3, a move the Times called "unusual and unexpected," but the Rays said a day game after a travel day left them cautious with Longoria.
He appeared fine when hitting a routine ground ball to second base for the final out of the bottom of the seventh inning, the newspaper reported. But when the Rays came back on the field, Elliot Johnson had moved from shortstop to third base and Reid Brignac was at short.
