Andre Ethier insists his confidence was fine when he arrived for spring training, which would not be news if he had hit more than one home run after July 25 last season.
But Ethier did not, and the sight of his silky smooth swing launching a baseball over the outfield fence was becoming a distant memory before it happened again in an 8-4 exhibition loss to the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday at Camelback Ranch.
"I kind of surprised myself," Ethier said of his first Cactus League home run, a blast over the 380-foot marker in right field. "I haven't seen a ball hit like that in a while off my bat. It's kind of nice to see."
