The Astros’ approach to rebuilding has caused concern among Houston fans.

Now, one of the most respected names in baseball has chimed in.

After Astros owner Jim Crane told frustrated fans he is open to accepting any donations to expand the team’s MLB-low payroll, award-winning sportswriter Peter Gammons offered criticism of his own via social media.

He took to Twitter to say that the team’s plans for the immediate future harm the competitiveness of the American League East and Central divisions and that the Astros should not reap any benefits from suffering through multiple 100-loss seasons.
