With the likely exit of Gareth Bale to Real Madrid Spurs are drawing up a list of potential replacements. Angel Di Maria and Javier Pastore have been mentioned but Roma forward Erik Lamela is the best option.

Lamela joined Roma for €12 million in August 2011 from River Plate. He has gone on to score 21 goals and provide 12 assists in 66 appearances for the club.

He is primarily a right winger who cuts in with his left foot. This is similar to where Bale was playing for Spurs last season.

The Argentine international is also similar to Bale in that both players are versatile. Lamela can play as a centre forward in the hole behind the striker and the left wing.

Lamela is only 21-years-old and has yet to reach his peak. He has only registered 2 appearances for Argentina so far.

Lamela has all the tools to replace Bale. He is tall at over 6ft a great dribbler who is full of flair and finesse.

The Argentine winger has improved year after year at Roma. He only scored six goals in his first season at the Italian club but last season his goal tally increased and he scored 15 times.

Under Spurs head coach Andre Villas-Boas Bale increased his goal tally to 26 last season from 13 strikes the season before. This is so far Bale's highest haul in his career. Villas-Boas could help Lamela increase his personal tally to Bale's numbers due to the similarity of the players.
