Eric Hosmer’s slow recovery from a minor strain to his right quadriceps muscle is prompting a go-slow approach by the Royals as spring training swings into its final week.

“It’s not bad at all,” he insisted. “It’s just not at 100 percent right now and, obviously, this close to the season, you want to get it right. We’re going to take these next two or three days to get treatment on it.

“After that, I’ll be in there every day.”

Hosmer said the injury occurred earlier this month on a stolen base while playing for the United States in the World Baseball Classic.

“It just felt like a cramp,” he said. “It just kept feeling like it was about to cramp up whenever I tried to get full extension on it. Nick (Kenny, the Royals’ trainer) said it was nothing major.

“They just want to make sure it’s 100 percent before the regular season.”
