Eric Belanger has been placed on injured reserve after injuring his foot Saturday afternoon in Denver.

Belanger hobbled off the ice after blocking a slap shot from Erik Johnson in the first period, but returned to the ice a few minutes later and finished the game.

Belanger didn't take the skate off until after the game, knowing his foot would swell up and he'd never get it back on.

He also cut his arm blocking a shot in what was a tough day all around.

The Oilers didn't discover the injury until Sunday when the team returned to Edmonton.

"He kept coming back," said head coach Ralph Krueger, who has hoping he wouldn't lose the veteran warrior.

"Belly has been really exemplary this year with the acceptance of his role he has on the team.

"His game overall and the character he's showing is the Eric Belanger that the Edmonton Oilers bought."

To help fill the void they've recalled Magnus Paajarvi from Oklahoma City.
