The Miami Dolphins are already thin at cornerback because of injuries the team's rookie duo of Jamar Taylor and Will Davis are nursing and now it appears Dimitri Patterson's status for Sunday's season opener against the Cleveland Browns is uncertain.

Patterson who earning the starting cornerback spot opposite Brent Grimes during training camp has been nursing a sprained ankle he suffered in Wednesday's practice. The seven-year veteran was limited during Friday's session and is listed as "questionable" on the practice report.

Losing Patterson could hurt the Dolphins' defense because he was one of the team's top performers during training camp and the exhibition season. He's also returning to Cleveland playing against the team that cut him late last season which allowed him to join the Dolphins in the final month of the year.

Patterson actually started both the games he played for the Dolphins last season.

“He’s quick. He’s competitive. He’s instinctive. He can play the ball well" coach Joe Philbin said. "Those are the primary things we’ve seen from him.”
