Chad Billingsley had a habit of kicking his left foot toward third base whenever he pitched out of the windup. How much bearing this had on his 2011 season, when the right-hander went 11-11 with a 4.21 earned-run average, is unclear.
Regardless, the Dodgers hope a little adjustment will go a long way with their presumptive No. 2 starter. Billingsley described his mechanics as "nice and smooth" in his spring debut Monday, when he threw two scoreless innings against the Chicago White Sox.
"Today was a good day," Billingsley said. "I just want to build off it."
