Diamondbacks catcher Miguel Montero and third baseman Eric Chavez have both been reinstated from the 15-day disabled list the club announced Monday evening. In corresponding moves infielder Matt Davidson and catcher Tuffy Gosewisch are headed back to Triple-A Reno.

Montero 30 is having an off-year at the plate but he's a very valuable defensive backstop who works well with pitchers. He's hitting .228/.316/.345 with nine homers and 34 RBI in 92 games. The one-time All-Star was 5-for-19 (.263) with two doubles and four RBI in six rehab games.

Montero has been sidelined since July 29 due to a lower back strain.

Chavez 35 comes back from the left knee strain that had sidelined him since August 10. He's hitting .299/.343/.526 with nine homers and 40 RBI in 62 games. Expect him to be a bench player and spot starter as he gives the D-Backs the flexibility to use Martin Prado in the outfield.
