Zach Parise signed a one-year contract in July, but that does not mean he is planning to leave the Devils any time soon. Still, he continues to be asked about his long-term future.

"I don't know how many times I can say it: I want to stay here," Parise said with a bemused smile after a practice this week.

The Devils have said all along that they want to retain Parise, a dynamic 27-year-old left wing. He has 163 goals in 420 regular-season games, and if anything became clear during his long absence last season to have knee surgery, the Devils need scorers.

When the Devils traded Jamie Langenbrunner to Dallas in January, speculation arose that Parise, a member of the 2010 United States Olympic team, would become their next captain. On Wednesday Peter DeBoer, the Devils' new coach, made it official.
