Even in seasons of upheaval, mutiny and rebuilding, the Detroit Pistons have had one reliable constant in recent seasons: the Washington Wizards.

The Pistons' 25-4 run to end the third quarter broke open a close game Wednesday and they went on to a 96-95 victory at Verizon Center.

The finish was heavy in intrigue: Jose Calderon, after no turnovers the entire game, had two in the final minute. Trevor Ariza's 3-pointer made it 96-93 after the first turnover, and he was fouled with a clear path to the basket after the second, by Will Bynum.

Ariza made the two free throws. Then, with the Wizards' follow-up possession, he also had a good look at a corner 3-pointer as the buzzer sounded, but it came up short.

It was the Pistons' 14th win in their last 16 meetings with the Wizards, dating to the 2008-09 season, their last playoff year.
