The trade rumors continue to swirl around Rajon Rondo, but there's one problem: There doesn't seem to be a suitable deal for the mercurial point guard. Here's a look at some of the most persistent names to arise in Rondo trade talks, and why most are unlikely to happen:
Lakers PF Pau Gasol
for Rondo (and Jermaine O'Neal to make the contracts match)
Why it works: The Celtics would acquire Gasol, one of the league's most skilled and consistent big men. The 31-year-old, averaging 16.9 points and 10.5 rebounds this season, would team with Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce to form arguably the NBA's best frontline. The Lakers have holes throughout their roster, but the lack of a quality point guard is the most glaring.
Deal or no deal?
